Common Ground's approach to serving youth is innovative and unique because by working in partnership with youth-serving agencies and schools, we place our programming within the context of broad community and interpersonal goals to foster psychosocial development and help young people to live in the world safely and productively. At the core of our work is a striving to enhance young people's sense of relationship with themselves, each other, and with the world. Common Ground’s youth programs take participants out of their conventional physical and mental landscapes and challenges them to search for new, healthier ways of being. We do this in a way many might not expect: through play. Through the use of experiential outdoor initiatives, expressive arts, and nature exploration, we build personal character, self-esteem, and leadership skills, as well as challenge young people to see how their actions play a role in the greater community.
